“Our Planet” show to feature New Series, “Healthier Living Through Healthier Choices”

May 12, 2008, Deerfield Beach, FL – The producers of “Our Planet” are pleased to announce a special series, Healthier Living through Healthier Choices, focusing on the foods we eat and the impacts they have on our environment and our health.

Every choice we make—from the places we shop to the packaged foods we buy—can have a lasting impact on the Earth. Depending on the route our meal has taken from the farm to our dinner table, it can contribute to environmental problems such as global warming, loss of biodiversity, air and water pollution, and soil erosion.

One easy way of making a contribution to the Earth is to be aware and responsible about what we eat. Food production releases greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, and chemicals are used to aid modern-day farmers with growing our fruits and vegetables. Vehicles used to transport our food emit fossil fuels, which contribute to air pollution, acid rain, and global warming; meanwhile energy is required to preserve the food for the journey to our supermarkets.

But it’s not just what we eat that can have an impact on the Earth; it’s also what we throw out after eating. Packaging uses an enormous amount of paper, plastic, and metal, and much of this is not recycled.

In this “Our Planet” series, we’ll discover the personal and environmental benefits to eating organic and consuming locally grown foods. We’ll speak with health, agriculture, and environmental experts to learn how we can help reduce the environmental impacts created by the foods we eat.

“Our Planet” identifies and promotes products and services that conserve resources and habitats, minimize ozone depletion and global warming, and promote less waste and toxic pollution. Highlighting those who are championing conservation efforts, “Our Planet” provides viewers with the latest news, research, and expert advice on new products and technologies that are changing the energy industry as well as the global landscape. The show’s in-depth editorial stories provide the latest information in this exciting field.
