“Our Planet” show to feature New Series, “America’s Heartland: Agri-Business”
May 6, 2008, Deerfield Beach, FL – The producers of “Our Planet” are pleased to announce a special series, America’s Heartland: Agri-Business, focusing on new and innovative developments in the agriculture and farming industry.
Agriculture in the United States has experienced significant changes, especially since the end of World War II. Food and fiber productivity soared with new technologies, mechanization, increased chemical use, specialization and government policies that favored maximizing production. These changes allowed fewer farmers with reduced labor demands to produce the majority of the food and fiber in the U.S.
Although these changes have had many positive effects and reduced many risks in farming, there have also been significant costs, including topsoil depletion, groundwater contamination, the decline of family farms, and increasing costs of production.
In this “Our Planet” series, we’ll discover a growing movement toward sustainable agriculture and address some of the major concerns surrounding the agri-business. We’ll speak with industry experts and innovators who will discuss environmental health, economic profitability, and social and economic equity as it relates to sustainable agriculture. Viewers will be educated on the variety of philosophies, policies and practices that are driving more eco-friendly farming.
“Our Planet” identifies and promotes products and services that conserve resources and habitats, minimize ozone depletion and global warming, and promote less waste and toxic pollution. Highlighting those who are championing conservation efforts, “Our Planet” provides viewers with the latest news, research, and expert advice on new products and technologies that are changing the energy industry as well as the global landscape. The show’s in-depth editorial stories provide the latest information in this exciting field.
